Playa Hotels & Resorts is collaborating with Marriott International to debut the first all-inclusive resort for Marriott’s Luxury Collection brand.
Sanctuary Cap Cana, the luxury all-inclusive in the Dominican Republic, will be rebranded Sanctuary Cap Cana, a Luxury Collection Adult All-Inclusive Resort. The change is expected to happen this summer.
The adults-only, 325-room resort is a private 30,000-acre enclave. It opened in 2007 under the Alsol brand and was renovated in 2014, reopening as an adults-only property.
Playa assumed management of Sanctuary Cap Cana in 2017. In 2019, a $45 million renovation added 140 suites in two new towers; a redo of the 20,000 square-foot Sanctuary Spa and fitness center; a new lobby; and a redesign of restaurants, bars and pools.
Other Sanctuary Cap Cana amenities include the Punta Espada golf course, a marina with more than 150 slips, an equestrian center with two polo fields and Sanctuary Town, the resort’s own nightlife destination.
Owned by Francisco Martinez, Sanctuary Cap Cana will become the first Playa-managed resort under a Marriott International brand. Playa operates all-inclusives in the Caribbean and Mexico for Hilton and Hyatt.
“We are thrilled to bring our first Luxury Collection all-inclusive brand to the Dominican Republic, and we are grateful to the Martinez family for developing such a unique resort,” said Laurent de Kousemaeker, Marriott International’s chief development officer for the Caribbean and Latin America. “We are also excited for the opportunity to work with Playa Hotels & Resorts, a very reputable all-inclusive operator.”
Fernando Mulet, Playa’s executive vice president and chief investment officer, noted that “in our first venture with Marriott International, Sanctuary Cap Cana is the perfect choice for the level of sophistication that has made Marriott’s Luxury Collection resorts the standard-bearer for unique, one-of-a-kind vacations.”
Marriott entered the all-inclusive segment in 2019, leveraging seven of its well-known brands. The company currently has a portfolio of 28 all-inclusive properties.
The Luxury Collection has 123 hotels worldwide.
