Jane McDonald appeared for the first instalment of her show Jane McDonald USA: Great Lakes on Channel 5 tonight. The cruise enthusiast embarked on an Alaskan cruise during the winter months, where temperatures can reach as low as -10 degrees. Arriving in her room, Jane showed viewers what she had packed for the trip.

The little-known cruise saw Jane exploring hidden treasures that Alaska has to offer.

Unlike typical cruises, which are often popular in the warmer months, Jane had to come prepared on her trip.

Clips of the desk showed guests wrapped up in anoraks and warm clothing as the waves crashed onto the ship.

Jane shared her packing list with viewers on the show.

She said: “I looked at the ships website and looked at the weather for this time of year.

“It can get down to -10.

“Lets just say, I’ve brought things I’ve never packed for a cruise before.

“Firstly, a balaclava…you can put it on as a hat.

“Next, extreme conditions underwear…I’ve got the pants to match.”

Jane had her clothing neatly wrapped in her holdall which was fairly small in size.

Another item which Jane had packed for her cold trip included an emergency blanket.

She said: “Emergency blanket…I think this is really quite good.

“It’s good for one, if you get lost, they will be able to see you for starter.

“Secondly, you’re not going to get hypothermia.”

With destinations like glaciers on the list of things to do on the Alaskan cruise, taking an emergency blanket is recommended.

What’s more, they can fold up super small so that they do not take up a lot of room.

Sharing their thoughts on social media, some viewers were left confused with Jane’s choice of clothing.

One person said: “I have never heard of extreme conditions underwear, can someone explain what it is?”

Another wrote: “Watching Jane McDonald cruising Alaska, she’s got her packing skills down.”

“Oh Jane McDonald is iconic, her cruise tonight looked incredible,” said a third.

A fourth commented: “Those for sure are unusual items to take, I wouldn’t have thought about any of them.”

Jane previously shared her packing techniques on an episode of Cruising with Jane McDonald which saw the host cruise down the River Thames.

She said: “After a relaxing lunch, it’s time to get down to the important business of unpacking.

“And because we’re in the UK, you have to be prepared for all weather.

“I pack within an inch of my life.”

Instead of unpacking her toiletries while on holiday, the cruise enthusiast purchased a toiletry bag which could be hung up in the bathroom.

She said: “I always have it packed with everything that I need for travelling.”
