New executive chef at Hawaii Convention Center has roots in the Islands

The Hawaii Convention Center has named Hector Morales the new executive chef for the Honolulu facility.

Morales has more than a quarter century of experience in the culinary industry, most recently serving as the chef de cuisine at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Island of Hawaii. Morales also founded a food service consultancy that works with restaurants in Hawaii and Nevada, and he previously served as the executive chef at the Polynesian Cultural Center for eight years.

“The Hawaii Convention Center is widely known for its culinary innovation, sharing the authentic flavors of the Pacific with meetings and events guests from around the world,” Teri Orton, general manager of the Hawaii Convention Center, said in a statement. “We are enthusiastically looking forward to Hector’s leadership and extensive experience as we continue to welcome guests back.”

The state-owned, 1.1 million-square-foot Hawaii Convention Center is managed by ASM Global and located at the corner of Kalakaua Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard in between Waikiki and Ala Moana.
