Covid-19 has seen a sharp decline in demand for taxis, with restrictions on movement in place
As a way of boosting drivers’ daily income, Hala said it will match any tip given by a customer at the end of their journey.
The booking service for Dubai Taxis, Hala, has said it will match any tips given to its drivers in an effort to supplement their income, starting from Sunday.
A joint venture between Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Careem, Hala uses the ride-hailing firm’s app to allow customers to book Dubai Taxis.
Covid-19, however, and the travel restrictions surrounding the coronavirus, has led to a reduced demand for taxis and the booking service.
Following government advice, booking a Hala (Dubai Taxi) is restricted to buying food, basic essentials and going to the hospital, or for a commute to work within one of the approved sectors by the ministries – energy, telecommunications, health, security, and police sectors.
As a way of boosting drivers’ daily income, Hala said it will match any tip given by a customer at the end of their journey.
Customers who book a Dubai Taxi through Careem can use the app’s tipping option for drivers (or captains, as Careem refers to them).
“Our Captains are at the core of our business and their wellbeing is always our top priority,” said Clemence Dutertre, CEO for Hala.
“We are committed to ensuring that all possible solutions are in place to support them during this most unusual time.”
