Emirates, Dubai Airports dismiss 'false' rumours about flight suspensions

Dubai Airport confirmed passengers eligible for visa-on-arrival will not be affected by the suspension of visas on March 17

“Emirates Airlines confirms that what is being circulated on social media that it will stop all flights from March 17 is nothing but pure rumours that are completely false.”

Emirate’s airline has dismissed social media speculation suggesting the carrier is set to cancel all flights from Tuesday.

The Dubai-based operator issued a statement on Sunday denying the rumours.

In a posting on Twitter it said: “Emirates Airlines confirms that what is being circulated on social media that it will stop all flights from March 17 is nothing but pure rumours that are completely false.”

The posting also included a link to the official Emirates website, where customers can book flights.

Rumours of all flights to and from the UAE being cancelled were also strongly denied by Dubai Airports, which operates both Dubai International and Dubai World Central airports.

In its statement on Twitter, Dubai Airports said: “We can confirm that the rumours circulating on social media around the suspension of all flights to and from the UAE are untrue. Both DXB and DWC continue to welcome travellers from a number of countries.”

To date, passenger flights from Dubai to and from Bahrain, Iran, Italy (except Rome), Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and China (except Beijing) have all been cancelled. Further cancellation of flights to and from Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey is set to take effect from March 17.

Visas on arrival

On Saturday the UAE announced a temporary suspension of visas issued, from Tuesday, except for those holding diplomatic passports. The move does not apply to anyone who has already been granted a visa before that date.

In addition, Dubai Airports confirmed that the restrictions do not apply to passengers who are eligible for a visa-on-arrival – although may be subject to additional screening. Those holding passports from the following countries can avail of visa-on-arrival: 

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy (from Rome only), Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,
The Vatican, United Kingdom and The United States of America.

All passengers departing on passenger flights bound for destinations in the United States will also undergo thermal screening.
