One of the joys of camping is to sleep in a tent. Tents, however, can sometimes be hard work to set up. Pop up tents were invented to remedy this problem, and campers have seen more and more options come to the market every year.

Camping Britons looking to buy a new pop up tent may feel there is too much choice.

Which pop up tent really offers fast and hassle-free set up?

To answer these questions, Which? tested 10 pop up tents to find the best ones to buy.

Lisa Barber, Which? Home Products and Services Editor, said: “Pop-up tents can be a convenient way to camp, however some of the tents in our tests took more than 10 minutes to set up and pack away, which is stretching the definition of ‘pop-up’ to the limit.”

To avoid buying a pop up tent that takes longer to pitch than a good old regular tent, Which? has released their findings.

They tested 10 tents from popular brands, ranging in price from £25 to over £100.

The fastest pop up tent to set up is the Mountain Warehouse Pop Up Double Skin 3 Man Tent.

Mountain Warehouse Pop Up is closely followed by Coleman FastPitch Galiano 4.

It took from four minutes and thirty five seconds to almost 12 minutes to set up the tents tested.

Lisa said: “For a stress-free camping trip, we’d recommend opting for a Mountain Warehouse Pop Up tent or Coleman FastPitch tent, both of which took less than five minutes to pitch and pack away.”

The testing process took into account the time, but also how easy the tents were to set up.

Which? explained their methodology on their website: “We checked the zips, pockets and vents for anything that could prove problematic when you’re camping.”

There are other important things to consider when buying a new tent.

Britons should buy a bigger tent than they think: “If there’s two of you, go for a three-person tent.”

Campers should look for large air vents when buying a new tent, to help with ventilation.

The weight of the tent should also be considered. A small tent does not necessarily mean a light tent.
