The Queen is one of the most well-travelled monarchs in the world, having spanned the globe countless times as part of her royal duty. However, while she may not fall victim to hand luggage rules like most people, there are some other rules she must follow.
What’s more, with the younger royals taking on more duties now the Queen has retired from international work, they too are held to the same protocols.
One such rule concerns the type of food they eat while abroad, and it seems they may not always be able to sample the local cuisine.
Though fish is often a staple part of the menu at state dinners, according to the BBC, any royal on a state visit must avoid eating seafood.
The rule applies, particularly to shellfish.
This is due to the increased risk of food poisoning often associated with consuming shellfish.
Should a member of the Royal Family come down with food poising while on a state visit it could throw the whole trip into disarray.
Similarly, rare meat is also cited as a dish to avoid for this reason.
Particularly as visits are so intricately planned, and they often cram many official visits into a very tight timeframe.

“Royal tours used to span months, but these days it’s more economical to cover more engagements in less time, so the royals will never be away longer than two weeks, and customarily they attend around four engagements a day,” an expert told Town & Country magazine.
The rule doesn’t only apply to the food consumed on a state visit though.
According to Business Insider, Royal Family members are also encouraged to avoid drinking tap water when travelling.
However, there are lots of foods that they can enjoy, with many members even travelling with specific snacks to keep them satisfied.
According to the former pilot of the royal plane Graham Laurie, the Queen has a particular taste for Fray Bentos tinned pies and often instructs her staff to make sure they have plenty stocked for her onboard flights.
The tinned pies are budget-friendly costing around £2.50 to buy.
They come in a range of flavours including steak and kidney, and minced beef and onion.
Speaking as part of Channel 5 documentary ‘Secrets of the Royal Flight’, the pilot said: “Do you know, they used to love it.
“I think it’s such a lovely change from all that fancy food which comes in first class!”
However, the monarch also has some more luxurious requests when it comes to the beverages she drinks.
While her inflight meal may be a casual affair, she is reported to be very specific about the water she is served alongside it.
Peter Pigott in his book Royal Transport wrote: “For each state visit, the royal family brought with them five tonnes of luggage, including Malvern water for the Queen’s tea.”
In the Channel 5 documentary, former royal spokesperson Dickie Arbiter added: “The only thing the Queen requests to have wherever she is is Malvern Water.
“She likes Malvern water, it’s refreshing and they usually take lots of it with her.”
She also ensures she has a large supply of Earl Grey tea with her when travelling, which is created “especially for her by Twining’s”, according to the MailOnline.
