Looking for 2024 holiday inspiration? A breathtaking village in Andorra might be just the destination.
The expert travel team at the United Nations World Travel Organisation (UNWTO) have shared the year’s best off-the-beaten-path destinations.
One of this year’s lesser-known destinations is the pretty village of Ordino in Andorra, sandwiched between France and Spain.
Located in the northwest of the tiny European country, Ordino was recently recognised by UNWTO for its ‘Parl’App’ which provides information on accessibility for tourists with disabilities.
An UNWTO spokesperson said: “Visitors will find themselves immersed amidst stunning rustic surroundings characterised by unmistakable Andorran architecture where stone houses with slate roofs seamlessly blend into the lush natural environment.”

So what’s there to see in Ordino?
The Tristaina Lakes are one of the region’s most beautiful spots, sitting high above the village. They can be reached via a hiking trail or by cable car.
A tourist ‘AlbertSalichs’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “The views of the lakes are amazing! Really beautiful.”
‘M4tteih’ wrote: “Forget the Lake District, come here. The mountains are higher, the lakes bluer. You won’t be disappointed when you get there.”

Ordino is also the perfect base to explore the beautiful Parc Natural de la Vall de Sorteny, a hive of wildlife and plants.
A Biosphere reserve since 2020, the Sorteny Valley Nature Park is home to deer, marmots and wild boar. It’s a diverse landscape with wildflower meadows, forests and marshes.
While in Ordino, why not sample some local delicacies? Andorra’s specialty escudella is made with white beans, ham bone, chicken, pork sausage, cabbage, potatoes, rice, noodles and chickpeas.
Although Andorra receives plenty of tourists for its size, Ordino is generally much quieter than similar mountain villages in Spain, France or Italy.
