Tenerife is one of the UK’s leading winter holiday destinations. The gorgeous Canary Island enjoys warm weather all year round.
It’s also much cheaper than other Spanish hotspots such as Ibiza or Majorca, making it a perfect choice for British families on a budget.
But when’s the best time to book a flight to Tenerife?
Many travel experts warn tourists to book early as flight prices tend to rise the closer it gets to the date of travel.
On the flipside, sometimes tourists who are prepared to risk it can snap up a last-minute bargain.

In an exclusive experiment for Express.co.uk, I searched for flights on Skyscanner for December 2023 and in 2024 to see when the cheapest time to book was.
I found return flights to Tenerife from London for under £50, a bargain to be prepared to fly with just an under the seat bag on Ryanair.
Baggage prices tend to vary depending on the popularity of the route so tourists could pay anything from £15 to upwards of £60 to take a cabin bag. If you can fly with limited luggage however, the flight price is a bargain.

In January, the cost of flights was higher and the cheapest option I found was £67 without luggage.
While February had a few options under £70, December was by far the cheapest month to book a flight to December in the next few months.
It’s not the whole story, however. When it comes to booking a long-haul flight it’s usually better to book far in advance and accommodation might be a struggle to find last-minute.

It’s definitely possible to find a last minute holiday bargain but tourists will usually have to be flexible on destination and travel date. If you see a cheap price for the destination you’d like to visit, it’s best to snap it up as flight prices tend to rise, particularly during popular times like summer.
If you’re able to travel outside of peak season and the school holidays, a little flexibility could help you secure a cheap holiday.
