Summer might be over but there’s still time to catch some sun at one of Europe’s top holiday hotspots. It’s no surprise that one of this year’s top destinations is in Spain.
The expert team at Tripadvisor looked for the most popular destinations for Britons travelling for late summer sun.
According to the review site’s Summer Travel Index, Benalmadena on Spain’s Costa del Sol is the most popular international destination for Britons. Looking for a staycation instead? Check out the leading UK destinations.
With almost 20km of coastline, Benalmadena is the ideal destination for Britons looking to unwind at the beach. The pretty town has around 320 days of sunshine per year.
The resort is very popular with Britons and around 34 percent of the town’s 17,300 residents are British expats.

While many tourists visit Benalmadena for its beaches, it’s actually the Benalmadena Pueblo, or “Old Village” that’s the highest rated attraction on Tripadvisor.
A tourist wrote on the platform: “Lovely quiet place. We did a walking tour around the pueblo and it’s very nice. The church is beautiful and well worth a visit. The view from the top is excellent.”
Another tourist said: “A beautiful old Spanish village. It is high up in the mountains and I could see the beach far below!”

Benalmadena’s other top attractions include the marina, where there’s a lot of bars and restaurants next to the water, and Parque de la Paloma.
Children will love the Butterfly Park while tourists can also pay a visit to the Garden of Eagles, to learn more about the majestic birds.
